Improving FHWA's Ability to Assess Highway Infrastructure Health - National Meeting Report

The FHWA in coordination with AASHTO conducted a study to define a consistent and reliable method to document infrastructure health with a focus on pavements and bridges on the Interstate System, and to develop a framework for tools that can provide FHWA and State DOTs ready access to key information that will allow for better and more complete assessments of infrastructure health nationally. This report summarizes the proceedings of a national meeting entitled, “AASHTO/FHWA Workshop on the Highway Infrastructure Health Assessment Study.” This workshop provided an opportunity for senior-level State department of transportation (DOT) stakeholders to provide input into national performance measures for pavements and bridges and identify challenges and implementation issues. The results of this Workshop including a summary of discussions related to proposed pavement and bridge condition and health metrics are contained in this report.
