This presentation given at the 11th National Conference on Transportation Asset Management provides insight into bridge maintenance cost models based upon asset condition data. MnDOT retrieves bridge data from multiple sources and then combines it using a business intelligence tool. However, within this process MnDOT faces the challenges of data quality, system integration, and accurate development of life cycle cost analysis for bridges.

This report focuses on pavement conditions in Minnesota and how the MnDOT uses preventative maintenance to avoid unnecessary expenditures. Merging time sheets and pavement management data into ORACLE enables MnDOT to analyze pavement cost distribution by surface condition and thus choose the most cost effective option over the assets life cycle.
