TAM Webinar 79: Making Data Work for Asset Management
Transportation Asset Management (TAM) decisions depend on data that is not only accurate, but available when decisions are being made. Yet many agencies’ required data collection cycles are too slow to support day-to-day operational and investment decisions. This webinar explored practical ways to make data more decision-ready by pairing traditional TAM datasets with emerging and alternative sources—such as vehicle and sensor data, third-party datasets, and targeted analytical inputs. The focus was on actionable approaches that improve decisions even when data are incomplete: agencies don’t need “perfect” data to make better choices, but they do need the right data, at the right time, in the right form. Participants were left with more holistic, realistic framework for modernizing data practices beyond compliance and toward decision support.
